Tarai Udon is a local favourite in Donari area of Awa City in Tokushima prefecture, Japan.  Tarai Udon is udon served in a Tarai, or tub.  The restaurant itself is located along the national road root 318 connecting Tokushima city to Higashi Kagawa city.  There are parking lots along side the road, but you do not really see any restaurant or building around.  To get to the restaurant, you have to go down stairs.

You will eventually reach the restaurant just by a river with very clean and transparent water.  Before entering the restaurant, you have to buy meal tickets.  If you arrive at the right time, you'll have to queue up and wait there for 20 to 30 minutes before you can get your tickets.

This is their ticket counter.  A sign board says that the restaurant is full and asking you to wait for a while.
Once they are ready to welcome you, a person from the restaurant asks your order.  You order at the counter, pay and get your tickets.   They will tell you where to go.  Before entering the restaurant you have to take off your shoes.  They have tatami rooms and you can choose your table.

Here are what we ordered but I forgot to take photos of their specialty, Tarai Udon for some reason.  Probably I thought I had to eat it quickly.  They serve Udon in a tub, and soup in a pot with empty bowls.  You put the soup in the bowls, use your chopsticks to get your udon into the bowl,  then eat it.  Don't try to get too many noodles, probably two to three noodles at a go would be sufficient.

The photo below is barbecued salted Amego Fish (they call it "Amego" in Tokushima but the fish has different names in different regions of Japan).  Very tasty and I regretted ordering only one plate; I should have ordered two...

And their Shiitake Mushroom (see below) is so yummy.  It comes with "Sudachi" (citrus fruit specially in Tokushima) and if I squeezed it over the mushroom, dipped the mushroom into the sauce then to my mouth, I was happy.  If you like shiitake mushroom, this is a must try.

I am sure I will be back here.

A view from restaurant.
