Onokoro Island Shrine (おのころ島神社 aka 自凝島神社)

Their address can be found at the end of this article.

This is a Shinto shrine located on Awaji island of Japan.  According to Shinto, two gods (Izanagi no mikoto and Izanami no mikoto) landed on an island called "Onokoro Jima" or Onokoro island, then gave birth to islands of Japan, as well as many other things in this world.  This is one of few shrines in Japan which is said to be the location of Onokoro island.  Its Torii (shrine gate indicating the holy place) is one the three great Torii in Japan, is huge and beautiful.

If you go around the shrine, there is a river and by the river, there are many cherry blossom trees.  We went there in the middle of April 2016, and lots of cherry blossoms have fallen onto the dried river making it as if we are by a pink river.  It is worth a visit especially during the time that cherry blossoms are falling or have fallen.  We will be back next year!
